Storm Bert was still very much around this morning. High cross winds, a wet track and more rain forecast all morning! I was in the second group to go out and my practice session felt pretty good. I was second fastest in a kart that felt pretty stable despite the conditions but was maybe lacking a bit in top end speed. In my first heat, I was allocated a starting grid of P4. When the lights went out, I got a really good start and gained one position almost straight away. A lap later, I grabbed another position. For the remaining four laps, I got a little closer to Ethan but he'd led from the front and to the victory. P2 for me and two positions gained. For my second heat, I once again started P4. First lap carnage on turn three, resulted in me gaining two places. A lap later, I took P1! The race then settled down as drivers found their rhythm and I crossed the line P1 with a 3.2 gap to P2. The rain came back as drivers in the B-final got to the grid... From my two heat results, I was starting pole in the A-final, which was amazing and another first for me this season! When the A-final lights went out, I covered the outside so I could get a good exit out of the first corner, whilst defending against Ethan and Tom in P2 & P3. For the final, I was allocated a kart that seemed to have good straight line speed but felt a bit twitchy in the corners. Nevertheless, I managed to hold my position, although I did get a couple of track limits warnings.. but I'll use running slicks in the wet as my excuse for that! I was just keeping my head down and focussing on my race and wasn't really aware of the great battle going on behind me with four other drivers. The fact it was so close with those guys helped me keep a gap (but not much of one!) for the rest of the race and in the end, I brought home the victory, some 1.6 seconds ahead of Ethan in P2. So, another first this season... P1 in the A-final, to go with P2 & P3 in previous rounds. I hope this should really help my overall champsionship position. It’s been such a good day and I can’t wait do try replicate this next week in R7, and, hopefully, I’ll also be competing in a three hour endurwnce after that. A dry race would be nice! Thank you to my family, my sponsors, Camuri Ltd & The MGroup and everyone who supports me through Sponsor Driven.
