JSCC Round 10 - Brands Hatch Indy

4/11/2025

Friday testing : Mixed track conditions throughout the day : damp, very wet and mostly dry. Good experience though and no dramas. Car felt good.

Saturday : Qualifying (Damp) - P8, P6 & P6. Not the easiest quali given the conditions. Lap times were pretty consistent.

Race 1 (Dry) : P8>P5 (P3 rookies). A great start and made up two places on the opening lap but the race was red flagged. An decent restart and got myself up to P6 on the road but finished P5 after penalties applied.

Race 2: (Dry) : P6>P6 (P3 rookies). Mega start and made a place but ultimately finished where I started, as I was picking my battles for the rookie championship.

Sunday Race 3: (Damp) : P6>P6 (P3 rookies). Another mega start and got two places. Didn't battle with Josh on lap one. There was a patch of water around the apex at Paddock Hill bend, which made things interesting but we brought the car safely home.

A solid weekend to secure the rookie P3 and, although there's no official championship for this, I also finished P1 in the 2025 newcomers. The car was faultless and my driving improved as the weekend progressed. An awesome first year racing cars!

Congrats to ojk_22 for the championship win and @olliesmithracing for the rookie win and a big well done to my teammate @benward_racing_uk for a mega three rounds.

A huge appreciation post for the season will follow but for now... thank you to...

Everyone at @cursleymotorsport. The car was faultless and the support as always was amazing! @_ashmiller for the coaching and kick up the bum! Everyone at @jsccofficial @officialbarc @brandshatchofficial and all the orange armt @marshalsuk All the 2025 JSCC drivers. I've loved every minute both on and off the track!

JSCC Round 9 - Oulton Park International

JSCC Round 9 - Oulton Park International

Friday testing : 20 minutes in to the first session and then the gearbox went! Our replacement box was fitted but sadly, no good. Second replacement box fitted but no good either. Third replacement box fitted and all seemed good but I'd lost all my remain testing time and had zero time in the car with my coach.

Saturday : Qualifying (Dry) - P12 & P12. (P9 & P9 rookies) .
Felt like something was up with the clutch but at least I'd got my laps in. Issue identified and resolved but I'd now need to go steady.

Race 1 (Dry) : P12>P11 (P8 rookes). DNF on the road. Stuff steady!.. Got a mega start and made up places. A few more laps in and that was my race over. Gearbox mount gave up and I limped into the pits. My box fluid on the track and a car going off caused the race to end under a red flag with positions awarded basis the lap prior to the red.

Race 2: (Dry) : P12>P7 (P5 rookies). Fourth replacement box fitted and felt lovely! Another mega start and got three places in first lap... I was then in a train behind Louis, Martin & Tom for the rest of the race and was pushing for an opportunity to make a move. It came on the final lap and I grabbed two more places.

Not the weekend we'd hoped for but we still made points and kept ourselves in with a shout of progressing in the championship in the final round. It was also cool to catch up with the team at @tracktilesuk and also meet some guys from @baguette_bashers

Thank you to my team @cursleymotorsport, particularly Alex & Jake for keeping me out there in difficult and frustrating circumstances. Thank you @_ashmiller for your support and encouragement and to @orexcompetition, @louis_austin & Chef Dave for your help in sourcing replacement boxes.

Thank you also to @jsccofficial @officialbarc @oultonpark @marshalsuk

None of this would be possible without the support of my family and my partners @TalkHSE, Camuri, @azj_x , @sddesigns.5, @tracktilesuk and everyone who supports me on @wearesponsordriven.

JSCC Round 8 - Snetterton - More valuable wet racing experience

17/9/2025

Qualifying  (Dry) :   P5 & P4.    (P2 & P1 rookies)   My best qualifying of the season so far.   The pace is getting there!

Race 1 (Dry) : P5>P6  (P3 rookies).  Race start was good but a red flag caused us to re-grid.   The restart was okay but then a couple of mistakes on the opening lap caused me to drop three places.   I got my head down, battled hard and managed to pull back a couple of places to finish P6.

Race 2: (Wet) : P4>P6 (P3 rookies).  A slow wet start and then drifting wide in the opening corners of the first lap again cost me a couple of  places.   On the next lap, side contact pushed me wide and cost me momentum and another place.  I pulled one of them back but I was maybe a bit too cautious in the wet conditions and should have gone for moves that were definitely on for P5.

Overall, still a decent weekend.  It was good to get some more wet racing experience, particularly in the new car and my quali pace was mega.   More racecraft work needed but we'll keep pushing!

Massive thanks to the team, Cursley Motorsport : Alex, Sheila, Harvey, Will & Lee for everything through the weekend.      Big shout out also to Ash Miller & Jonathan Moore for their support and guidance both on and off the track!

Thank you also to JSCC, BARC, MSUK and the Snetterton Marshals and circuit team.

It was great to meet Guy from Track Tiles, who is our latest 2025 partner.

Congrats to everyone that made the podium and got the other driver awards.

Mega props to my new teammate, Ben Ward, in his first race meeting.

None of this would be possible without the support of my family and my partners, TalkHSE, Camuri, Ashley James, SD Designs & Track Tiles

Next up, Oulton Park again in just under a month.

JSCC Round 7 - Donington Park. Solid points weekend and another top 5 finish!

11/8/2025

Quali : P6, P5 & P5 . Consistent times and just missed out on P5 in race 1 by 17/1000ths!

Race 1: P6>P7 (P4 rookies). Not a great first lap. Lost places to Max & Leon. I stuck with them though and got past Max with around five minutes left on the clock. I was all over the back of Leon for the rest of the race and nearly got my nose in front in the run to the line.

Race 2: P5>P6 (P3 rookies). Not the best of starts saw me lose a place to Louis on the first lap. Ollie ahead had an issue and was forced to retire. I was all over the back of Louis looking for the move when the safety car was required and bunched us all back up. A single lap shoot out saw me go for it down the inside into the last chicane. It didn't come off, compromised my exit and I lost momentum which allowed Max to get past in the run to the line.

Race 3: P5>P5 (P2 rookies). I had the pace to stick with Ollie and even when I made a mistake and the gap pulled out to almost a second, I managed to get back on his bumper and keep the pressure on. Our battle pulled such a gap to the battle behind for P6 that my first 5 second track limits penalty didn't affect my final position.

Overall, my race pace is getting there but there's still work to do!

Massive thanks to the team @cursleymotorsport : Alex, Sheila, Harvey, Will, Jake, Lucas & Aaron, for everything through the weekend. Big shout out also to my driver coach @_ashmiller and also to @28lucastaccini_racing for their support and advice both on and off the track! Thank you also to Dave Kimberley for feeding us through the weekend.

Congrats to everyone that made the podium and got the other driver awards. Best wishes to @martinwrightracer for a speedy recovery.

My first top 5 finish!

Mega short weekend all round - My first top 5 finish!

Another new track to learn on Friday practice. Managed to lock in some decent pace towards the end of the day.

Qualifying : Qualified P6 & P5 - My best qualifying to date! Nice and consistent lap times. Car was really planted. If anything, it felt like I had too much grip on the front!

Race 1 : P6>P6 - An okay start and decent race spent mostly in a train behind Ollie & Louis. Managed to get close but not quite close enough to take advantage of the limited opportunities to make a move. Overall though, I was super happy that I had the pace to stay with them and pull a gap to Max behind.

Race 2 : P5 > P5 - A better start and managed to mostly stay with Ollie. Got up to P4 after Wilf clipped the tyres and was forced to retire (he was okay) but then lost the place to Max with around 5 mins left on the clock. We then had a great battle for the rest of the race but ultimately, I couldn't get the move to stick on track and came home for my first top five finish!

Massive thanks to the team @cursleymotorsport : Alex, Sheila, Harvey, Will on data and Lucas on spanners for everything through the weekend. Big G was rapid! Big shout out also to Ash for all of his support both on and off the track!

Congrats to everyone that made the podium and got the other driver awards.

JSCC Round 5 - Croft

16/6/2025

Race report - JSCC Round 5 - Croft

Friday practice with Ash was good. Big G was getting hot and was down on power for the last few laps of the first session but Alex sorted the issue.

Qualifying : I had decent pace but struggled to get much of a tow, so I was a few tenths off the mid pack and qualified P10 / P10 / P9.

Race 1 : P10>P8
An epic battle with Leon! I was all over the back of him trying to find the gap to make a move. Almost got it done on the home straight with a few laps to go but he defended well and I came home P8. It was good to see Martin was okay after his car caught fire at the end of the race.

Race 2 : P10 > P9
A great battle with Joe. Got close a couple of times but didn't get the move done. I probably should have been a bit more aggressive. A great race but had to settle for P9.

Before race 3, I was awarded driver of the meeting for the last round at Silverstone, which was cool.

Race 3 : P9 > P7
Lost a place at the start as I was forced onto the grass but managed to get it back and then chased after Leon for a few laps before getting the move done at the hairpin. Managed to catch up to Joe and put him under pressure but he defended well and held on to the place, so I finished P8 on the road but got promoted to P7 after a post race track limits penalty.

Huge thanks to the team for giving me a solid and reliable car and for everything else they do for us. It's always great to share the awning with Tom, my unofficial team mate and all of his family. Great also to spend some more time with my new team mate @benward_racing_uk and his dad, Nick.

Thank you to my driver coach @_ashmiller for everything during Friday testing.

Special thanks too to @28lucastaccini_racing who came along to support us. Never a dull moment when he's around!

Thank you also to @croftcircuit @marshalsuk @officialbarc @jsccofficial

JSCC Round 4 - Silverstone National

19/5/2025

So this was the one I was most excited for!

JSCC Round 4 - Silverstone, home of British Motorsport and, as an added bonus, very close to home!

We were racing the National circuit layout and had a busy schedule with the addition of a further practice session and the roll over Brands Hatch race.

Friday practice went well. Working with Sam, I learnt the track and worked on encouraging more rotation in the corners.

Saturday
---------
I qualified P11 from a field of 17 in all three of the Sunday races, which left me feeling I could and should have done a bit better but equally, it was still decent for a newbie rookie.

Brands Hatch rollover race. P10 > P10. Good to get that race done after the cancellation at Brands.

Sunday
-------
Race 1 - P11 > P10.
Race 2 - P11 > P11.
Race 3 - P11 > P10.

Overall I didn't drop a place over the weekend, which is a mega achievement but I didn't gain many either, so I've got more work to do with the team's support to generate more rotation and not scrub off speed.

As ever, the team were awesome in every way all weekend. Thank you Shelia, Alex, Harvey, Alvaro on the spanners & @willll_oww on data.

Thank you to my driver coaches @sammaherloughnan and @_ashmiller
for your support and advice throughout the weekend.

Thank you to the @silverstonecircuit team and the orange army @marshalsuk

As always, none of this would be possible without the amazing support of my family and my partners @talkhse , Camuri, & Blue Flare Group. Thank you all so much.

Special thanks to friends and family who came along to support me this weekend.

We go again at Croft in just under a month!

JSCC Round 3 - Thruxton 17-18 May'25

6/5/2025

Lots learnt both on and off the track!

Another round... another new track and only 45 mins of practice time on the Friday. All went pretty well though and with Ashs' coaching, we found some decent pace.

Quali was good. I was consistent with my best three lap times and managed P10/P8/P8. All over a second quicker than I'd done in practice.

Race 1. P10>P8. Finished P7 on the road but a clerks review dropped me to P8.

Race 2. P8>P9. Finished P10 on the road but was promoted to P9 after a clerks review.

Race 3. P8>P14. Gutted!!!... I'd got up to P7 overall and P1 in the rookies only to get a puncture. I got to the pits under the safety car for a wheel change and after a bit of a delay with confusion over when I could re-enter the track, I avoided the DNF but finished at the back a couple of laps down.

A decent progressive weekend for us overall though and a couple of small bonuses was that I was able to take the novice sticker off Big G and also sign my first autograph!

Congratulations to everyone that made the podium and won the other driver awards. It's also good to know the drivers involved in the shunts are okay.

On to my local track Silverstone in a couple of weeks!

Thank you to everyone at Cursleys : Shelia, Alex, Harvey, @willll_oww on data & Jasmine on media. Also thank you to Jake, Lee, Owen & Alvaro on the spanners for both the Saxos and the Hyundi Coupes. Thank you also to my driver coach Ash for all your advice and particularly for coming back to support me on the Saturday!

Thank you to the Thruxton circuit team and @marshalsuk

JSCC Round 2 : Brands Hatch - 19-20 April

Matthew Swattons race car in the garage at Brands Hatch
After a solid season opener at Donnington, we were hoping for a top ten finish in at least one of the races in R2 at Brands Hatch.

Another new circuit and lots to learn in a very short space of time. Friday testing went well and I shaved my lap times every session under the guidance of my driver coach @_ashmiller

Saturday quali and having bed in a new set of brake pads, they gave me more confidence to brake later and improve my lap times over what I achieved in testing, putting me P11/P11/P10 out of a grid of 18,  for the three races.

Saturday - Race 1 - P11>P11 (Dry circuit).

Made a move on the Cooper Straight to grab P10 and was getting closer to P9 when contact from behind at Druids sent me into the gravel. I managed to keep the momentum going and got back on track, only dropping the one place back to P11. I held onto this until the end of the race.

Sunday - Race 2 - P11>P10 (Dry circuit).

Made another move to grab P10 but this time on the inside at Druids. I was all over the back of P9 but made the mistake of carrying a bit too much speed into Clearways, locked the brakes and understeered across the gravel. Fortunately I had enough momentum to get out back on track and managed to bring the P10 home.

Race 3 - P10> Meeting abandoned due to a truck race incident (driver okay, barriers, not so much!)

Overall, a mega weekend despite the frustration of the final race. We achieved our goal of a top ten finish and now we move on to Thruxton in a couple of weeks!

Big congrats to everyone that made the podium.

Thank you to Shelia, Alex, Harvey & Will for giving me a solid car and loads of advice and feedback. Thank you also to Ash for his coaching on Friday.Thank you to the Brands Hatch circuit team and all the orange army. It really is appreciated.

Massive thanks and well done to @tomalgarracing @algar_racing and @alexander.motor.co It's awesome sharing the garage and awning with you all.

JSCC Round 1 - Donington Park

24/3/2025

A weekend of firsts and a very steep learning curve!

Our goal for the weekend was to bring the car home each time and then not be last in any race session.

Friday practice was dry. Morning sessions were spent with my driver coach Matt. Afternoon sessions gave me a chance to drive on my own for the first time!

Saturday...

Quali - Dry... Out of a field of 16 : Race 1 - P12 / Race 2 - P13 / Race 3 - P12. Not bad for a newbie rookie!

Race 1 - Wet .. P12>P12 - Held my position despite a big moment at the Old Hairpin. Happy that I saved it though, which was a big confidence boost.

Sunday...

Race 2 - Greasy .. P13>P13 - This was tougher than a fully wet race but I held my position.

Race 3 - Dry .. P12>P11 - This was by far my best and most enjoyable race as I had some great battles, particularly with Joe. This felt like proper racing!

All in all, we achieved what we set out to do this weekend, so I'm chuffed. I've learnt loads already but there's loads more to do. Can't wait to try to build on this great start at Brands.

Congrats to all those that made the podium across the weekend.

Thank you to my team : Shelia, my new racing mum, Alex for the spannering and advice, Will on data and Harvey for just being a mega dude all weekend! Thank you also to my driver coach Matt on Friday testing for prepping me for my first solo run.

Thank you to the Donington circuit team and marshals and also my mates for coming along to support in person and also on the BARC live streams.

As always, none of this would be possible without the amazing support of my family, my sponsors Camuri, Blue Flare and everyone who supports me through Sponsor Driven. Thank you all so much.
