2024 review

2024 has definitely ended on a high for me!

From racing in open sessions at indoor circuits for most of the year, I came back in September to racing outdoors at my home track in Milton Keynes.     This was my first ever full championship.  I didn't really know any of the other drivers but I knew that this championship always attracts talent, so I'd have my work cut out to compete.

It didn't start off very well, with me retiring in R1 due to illness but from R2 onwards, I steadily improved and grew in confidence.  I found myself challenging for, and getting podiums in the A-final, which was always my target.    To finish the championship overall P3 was fantastic!

I also participated in my first team endurance race with Oli & Tom.   Bringing team tactics into the racing just took the whole experience to another level of fun and for us newbies to bring home P3 out of a class field of 27 was pretty amazing!

2025 will hopefully see me move away from karts to progress my dream of racing cars.   I'm participating in the JSCC scholarship in February in the hope of winning a  seat for the 2025 race season.     It's a big ask but I'll give it everything!

I wouldn't be able to do any of this though without the support of my family, my sponsors Camuri Ltd and @themgroup, and everyone who supports me on @wearesponsordriven.     Thank you all so much for believing in me.

Thank you also to everyone who follows on social media.    It's great to share my journey with you.

Thank you also to the circuit teams at @teamsportkarting and @daytonamsport for organising our racing. 👏👏

Overall though, what's meant the most to me this year are the new friendships I've made with many of the other drivers and their families.     The racing has been fun, hard but fair and the paddock has been a real laugh even when it was chucking it down... Which it was, pretty much all the time we raced!  Thank you all for the fun times in '24 and I hope you all have an amazing 2025 💪💪

LET'S GO! - A championship podium at my first attempt! - DMK Inkart S3 R8

RESULT : A-final P2. Championship P3.

To get a championship P3 in my first full season of inkart was amazing! I started the round in P4 based on the best six rounds so far, just three points behind P3.

No rain for a change! The track was damp but drying. Practice got off to a chilled start as I was leading out of the pitlane. I finished on P4 best lap pace but my overall times were more consistent than the front runners!

Heat 1 - P1>P1. My start wasn’t the best as I quickly shifted to the outside to defend my position and to not understeer into the tyre barriers. After that early moment, the heat calmed down and I brought home P1. Job done.

Heat 2 - P8>P4. Got a couple of positions on the first lap and by the end of the second lap, I was P3. I couldn't hold that position though and dropped back to P4. There was a big battle in front of me for the top three places and although I closed the gap to them, I remained P4.

A-final - P3>P2. Starting P3 just behind Harry, (my rival for championship P3) , I got a decent start but after 2 or 3 laps, I was struggling to find the grip and had lost a place to Ethan. Following Ethan and working with him for a few laps was the best thing as he'd spotted the dry lines earlier than me, particularly in T1. Using those drier lines we caught the front runners. I passed Ethan and started pushing as hard as I could to try to catch Harry. For a few laps I put pressure on Harry making him look back more often. Finally on the penultimate lap, the pressure paid off, as, coming into the second corner, Harry went out wide and I ended up grabbing two places! P1 might have been possible if we had a few more laps but I'd done what I needed to do secure a championship podium and brought home P2.

Congrats to Charley for the A final P1 - an amazing drive from B final winner to win the A final too. Congrats also to Zayn for P3.

Congrats to Tom & Zayn for their championship podiums.

Shout out to Holly and Kyle, who were both involved in big hits on T1 in the B-final. I hope you guys are all okay.

Huge thanks to all the drivers from this season. It's been great fun to race with you all and I really do feel like I've made some great friends over the last couple of months. Thank you to Daytona for putting on a great championship, my family, my sponsors and everyone who supports me through Sponsordriven.

Team members : Oliver Philpott / Tom Justice / Matthew Swatton

RESULT - P3 of 27 in SODI SR5 class. 43 karts on track. Tom and my first endurance race and only Oli's second.

• Practice - Decent pace from us all. We're running around P3'ish. We all got quicker as the track dried a bit but overall, Tom was quickest, so he was doing quali!

• Quali - P4 - Tom had the pace for better but with it being a one shot one flying lap, he got a bit held up in traffic towards the end.

• Matthew - first 30 min stint P4 > P6 > P5. Rolling start and I got off to a flyer grabbing a place by the first corner. I dropped back to P6 after being clipped and spun by a Dmax but managed to get back to P5 for my first driver change .. with myself!

•Matthew - second 30 min stint for me. P5 > ?? > P4. I felt more comfortable with the kart and got back on good pace to get us back to P4.. I was closing in on P3 and I reckon I'd have taken it within a couple more laps but my time was up!

• Oli - first 30 min stint. P4 > P4 > P4. We lost some time on the changeover with the ballast but Oli maintained our P4. We took advantage of an empty fuelling bay to pit him a lap earlier than planned. He made a super quick fuel stop and was on his way just as others came in.

•Oli - second 30 min stint. P4 > P4 > P6. Oli was flying until he was clipped and span on T10. He lost a couple of places but recovered well to close the gap to P5 before his time was up.

•Tom - first 30 min stint. P6> P8? > P7. We lost time again on the driver change due to the ballast. The top 3 SODI teams were over one lap ahead, but from P4, it was pretty close. Tom came out P8 but soon took P7 and closed in on P6 before he came in for his driver change with himself!

•Tom - second 30 min stint. P7 > P7 > P3. Tom's pace was good. This and teams ahead pitting promoted him to P4. Last few laps and Tom closed in on P3. Frustrated by yellow flags, it came down to the last lap but he did it, securing the final podium place!

Outstanding team performance!! Thank you to my teammates and our parents for all the support and huge thanks to the Daytona MK team for putting on a great event!.

Have had better days but have also had far worse!

** TLDR summary - Finished P5 in A-final... **

Today's round would give me six qualifying rounds and shake down the championship standings. I was P6 in the championship coming into this round but still in contention for a podium place.

It was raining (again!), the track was wet (again!) and I wasn't particularly happy with my kart (again!!). All that said, in my group practice session, I was on a respectable P3 pace.

Quali immediately followed practice and the rain had at least eased off. I found another 1.2s over my practice time but all drivers upped their game during quali and so I remained P3.

After the second group finished their practice/quali, I found myself P5 on the grid in the A final. At the start of the season, I'd have taken that every time but today, it just didn't feel good enough.

Although I had a different kart for the final, from the start, I struggled to stay with the drivers in front. In fact, I dropped to P6 on the road after contact with Ethan. It was totally unintentional on his part and he immediately apologised to me on track but race control gave him a one place penalty. I finished P6 on the road but P5 after penalties applied.

Overall, not shocking but could have been better. Final round in two weeks time...Need to push 💪

Congrats to @tomjustice57racing , @zpracing8046 & Harry for the podium. Big shout out to @kyl3_mcm1llan after he took a big hit in his race. Hope you're not too sore mate!

Thank you to my family, my sponsors and everyone who supports me through @wearesponsordriven
