Earlier this week, I went to Absolutely Karting in Bristol with my step brothers Jack & Josh, who are both experienced racers and compete in the Castle Coombe championships.
The sessions at Absolutely are different to TeamSports and most others, as you arrive and drive for a single long session, rather than multiple shorter sessions with breaks in between. This is good for the experienced karters as it helps to develop core strength, your focus and it allows you to settle into a better rhythm. Jack and I were in the cadet karts and Josh, being fourteen already, was in the adult kart, which, although it had better straight line speed, it was less nimble around the twisting series of corners, so the speed advantage was pretty much cancelled out. I had found out before we exited the pit lane that they had just put on brand new tyres on the karts, which made them more grippy but as the rubber hadn’t laid down enough yet it was super bouncy 😵💫 There were only five drivers on track, the three of us and two other, probably less experienced drivers. There were a few yellows and reds but that's to be expected and overall, the session flowed pretty well, which was good for us to try set good lap times. A fun and challenging experience. I will be returning soon! |
